icurve over top of 1200?

Post by TOBY » Thu May 12, 2005 1:41 am

Anyone used one for sitting their laptop over the top of a TT?

I'm searching for DJ booth solution, need one urgent so any help would be great.

Done a load of searches on all the various sites and haven't seen anything suitable. I don't want to put weight on the platter.. but need my set-up suspended in air.

but you'll carry an icurve?

just ask the promoters to have a dust cover around. or to keep a flat space next to the decks available.

no space next to or in many dj booth. I play at two venues where the decks go to the edge of the booth.

I need something to suspend laptop over the decks... Thinking of cutting a icurve and making it higher as I dont think they are high enough to go under the tt. I don't want to put weight on the patter or have to carry turntable lids around as they break easily

Toby, i dont think you are understanding what Drush is saying.

he's saying a thermal pad, on top of a technics dust cover (which 99% of promoters/clubs have or can provide) , would not be any more of a pain to "carry" than a modified iCurve.

you wouldnt have to put weight on the platter, you wouldnt have to carry dust covers. all you'd have to do is make a 2 minute phone call to make sure there are dust covers available (they come free when you buy a turntable new), and bring something to place between the dust cover and your laptop.

it ain't rocket science.

yeah i understand. I'm saying these two clubs don't have dust covers and its not possible even to put them on.. in fact they have the slots where the "hinge" goes in removed!

here's what i'd do.

buy some wood, cut 3 pieces. 1 piece about 2 inches (or whatever centimeters is) longer than the width of a Technics 1200, and make it as deep (long) as your laptop.
then cut 2 more pieces with the same deth or length, but make their width only 1 inch taller than a Technics tone arm.

now, buy some metal hinges, so you can fold this whole piece into a flat stack.
hinge the smaller pieces onto the sides of the large piece of wood, so that you can make a sort of wooden stand that covers the Technics entirely. it wont sit on the turntable, the 2 pieces will act as legs that are about half an inch to the sides of the turntable.

paint it black or pink or whatever you choose.
this should all cost you half as much as an iCurve, and require no more effort than modifying an iCurve.

Someone posted photos awhile back of a foam cover they had made which
sits on the turntable like a record, then they just sit the laptop ontop of the
foam ontop of the platter.

what about if I said the front of the tt is flush with the edge of the desk...

I'm not trying to be difficult by the way, its testing my powers of problem solving

there must be something that doesnt involve a carpentary course!

i dont know what they have in australia, but you can get something like this in the US... http://store.dhctek.com/xasp0488.html

http://www.electronicsoutfitter.com/store/23961.html

5" should be just enough clearance, so long as you dont go over the tonearm assembly.
