Post by Jeff Grossberg » Sun May 15, 2005 2:07 am

Hi ALL. Anyone out there knows how to loop using FaderFox and ControlAID with LIVE? Even just knowing either FaderFox or ControlAID would be a good start??? THANKS,

connect your midi devices to your PC/MAC. use 'midi learn' in Live to match the hardware midi controllers to Live functions. Start Looping.

If you've a more specific question, I'm sure people can help further.
Read the manual first though, or you might be left waiting a while ;-)

Knows LIVE USING FADERFOX for LOOPING

Post by Jeff Grossberg » Sun May 15, 2005 8:47 pm

thanks for your replies. To be more specific, i was hoping to find someone who has a FaderFox as part of their real-time looping performances. They understand how to tweak up the FaderFox to get the most control and flexibility when it comes to playing along with the various parts that you create on the fly.

I would like to lay down a harmonica track, then go back and using midi controls of the FaderFox or a foot controller (if need be), and morph the sound of the looped harp track into some cool effected part. Then, I would move on to jam along with the part until another cool part is recorded and looped, and so on. The tricks are how to make sure you have a perfect loop going in, then allow for some interaction with that loop (be it effects or manual studder triggering).

How one deals with arming and disarming, deleting unwanted attempts or played out loops are just some of my unanswered questions. Thus, my interest in finding someone who has done all this, possibly with the FaderFox, or certainly other controllers for a MAC perferred. AND, i am opening to exploring other expression devices like the P5 Glove and this Eyris beam deal. I have on order the new Alesis small controller with some sort of beam deal. But the more mobile the solution the better.

Hope this helps explain things more thoroughly, ThANKS

Hi Jeff,

I have recieved my FAderfox now ;-) It's very useful IMO. If you use the Live session that comes with the Faderfox CD some functions in Live are already mapped to the targets physically written to the Faderfox hardware. Can't be easier!

I'm running a Behringer FCB1010 foot pedal board into the FAderfox LV1 and via a MIDI Mate into one USB port of my Powerbook. I play three different instruments with my hands, so I pretty much need that foot controller to freez loops, pitch transpose etc. Maybe you can go with just the LV1 if you can loosen one hand from the harp you're playing? The FCB is a bit big to travel with.

Hi Per! Yes, you are pretty much doing exactly what i am looking to do-
Do you make house calls??? Or do i have to fly over? I dig the FaderFox because it is so compact. You obviously are getting some milage beyond just the 1010 foot controller too- with both items you have the most flexibility?

Yes, one hand can go after the FaderFox controllers, but I am thinking i will need something more too- ideally something on the back of the hand (FaderFox is just too big for that), or a tracktor beam deal.

If anyone lives in the Chicago area that can stop by the studio, great! Otherwise, I will proceed to experiment on my own, benefiting for all the great comments people have shared throughout the forum.

Thanks,
jeff

well, I'm not so sure about that. the way I usually loop livei to layer sound-on-sound by overdubbing into the same loop (keeping one or two loops in the spin). When using Live this means I never record audio clips. What I do is to record into tape delay simulaing plug-ins, that will let me fade out and overdub s-o-s by midi expr pedals. I sometimes use a Gibson Echoplex hardware unit as well.

Typically sounds like

Hey Per- yes, I hear what you mean- man, that is some beautiful music- very cosmic with its echos. I would love to have that as an option for effecting the recorded loops. but initially, i am pursuing more of what Kimyo laid out in his video: http://www.iosonic.com/video/anareal.wmv . I saw a wonderful beat boxer at Burning Man, named Kid Beyond build an entire song from scatch using LIVE and some sort of simple floor controller. Thus, I know it can be done. Just how to do it is somewhat a distant star.

Any one in Chicago care to comment!!!!

But as you mentioned Per, the FaderFox does add alot off the bat...the quest continues...
THANKS for your comments!
