Dynamic Effects Automation Using Dummy Clips in Ableton 9

Post by exaltron » Sun Oct 13, 2013 4:32 pm

Here is a video tutorial about a feature in Live 9 that I've been really looking forward to- Clip Automation. I do a lot of performance using Ableton with live guitar, trumpet and vocals, so I love being able to have effects automatically switch and adjust as I am performing. In this video I perform a verse of David Bowie's Let's Dance while Ableton effects such as Ping Pong Delay and Beat Repeat are automatically synchronized to the live vocals.
In the past this has only been possible using dummy clips with some kind of midi routing hack, such as an IAC loop. But with Live 9 Clip Automation, you can now create dummy clips and assign automation directly to your live monitoring tracks- super easy and insanely powerful. I hope to see a lot more live musicians and vocalists using this feature to create dynamic effects automation in their performances!
