Mavericks crashes: anyone else?

Post by merlynsilva » Thu Oct 24, 2013 10:01 am

Upgraded to OSX Mavericks last night, and now my Ableton Index crashes ('not responding') after opening Live and browsing my library. Eventually this either crashes Live, or freezes my entire system. Installed the 9.1 beta but same problem...

Anyone else getting this?

Thanks for the responses guys, nice to know I'm not alone!

Ive sent Ableton a report pack and they're on the case, so ill post my findings here

Max has just been updated so I installed that, seems to keep the CPU of the 'Not Responding' Live Index down a bit, but it spikes again when I'm saving a project... very strange... haven't had a freeze yet but it still crashes randomly.

Apart from that Live seems to be working a little bit quicker with Mavericks, so that's something :)

Having the same issue here with Mavericks. Live will work fine for a while, then will lock up most of my system. The music keeps playing, but the mouse and keyboard stop working and I have to hard reset my Mac. Looks like I can't use it until the patch it as I'm afraid what all these hard resets are doing to my computer :(

I'm having the same issue on my brand new Macbook and there seems to be an issue with this release of Mavericks. Awaiting update from Apple. This is a big screw-up on their part.

Same here on late-2012 mac mini.

Mouse/keyboard will suddenly become unresponsive. I can then still hover the dock, but no clicks or keypresses are recognized.
While in this state I can still connect via ssh. But once I kill the ableton process the CPU goes to 100% (fan spinning) and the system freezes up terminally (mouse cursor frozen).

I have a wild guess: This *seems* to happen mostly under high memory pressure for me. Perhaps the new 'memory compression' feature in Maverick is the culprit? Anyone know if there's a way to disable that?

I wanted to upgrade to Mavericks too as soon as it came out but I think alot of people know that early adoption of OS upgrade tends to have alot of crashes. So what's you guys reason for upgrading so early, maybe performance or something?

A whole lot of shiny new toy syndrome/profound lack of foresight?

Curiousity, backed up by knowing it's only a 45 minute revert via Time Machine if there's any issues.

I had nearly completed a project, then upgraded, then my project wouldn't open anymore (Live would crash). I had a client waiting.

I did a bit of experimenting, and discovered that if I simply deactivated M4L (by sneakily renaming its folder), everything would open fine, minus the handful of LFOs that I'd chucked in for good measure. Turns out, the LFOs weren't doing much, so inadvertent win, I guess.

Anyway, I've left M4L deactivated for now, because honestly, nobody cares.

My 9.0.1 freezes the whole computer. Sometimes five minutes after opening a project, sometimes half an hour... There's nothing to do, if the session was playing when it freezes, then there's still sound, but the mouse and the keyboard are locked, and the cursor disapears. I need to turn my computer off manualy and restart it!
