I'd be worried Vista isn't allowing your hardware to reach it's full potential. I've googled a few things as a result of this thread and Windows 7 almost always beats Vista in benchmark tests using the exact same hardware.

food for thought anyhow.

If you're willing to drop the change on a fresh new puter, go for it. Repurpose the old one to host a porn site or something. Make some cash on the side.

Yes it does, but by how much and what does it translate to in practical use. I installed Vista on my previous computer build and ran Live 8 Suite and my Access Virus, which uses 3 channel USB audio, with no problems. I have installed Windows 7 on my current computer build and I doubt I would see much of a performance difference if I switched back to Vista, but I do prefer 7.

You will also have seen that Windows 8 almost always beats 7 in the same tests. If you look through the Ableton performance test thread, you will see that the operating system does not have a big effect on the result.

Amen. When people choose 7 over 8, I always feel they are suckers to their aesthetic comfort zone :P

Then again, the insistence on having apps is a bit hard to swallow. When you want to get down to some serious computing, and these goofy user-friendly blocks insist on being installed on your system, it's a lot like showing up to a metal party in the leotard from dance practice.
