Shame... cant fine tune pitch on Impulse. Or is it me?

Post by Hedroom » Tue May 17, 2005 4:00 pm

Is it really not possible to fine tune drum hits in Impulse? The tune field only shifts by whole tones but this doesn't really help me tune snares etc. The only workaround i see is to set pitch to velocity sensitive and tune with velocity. At the moment I'm having to tune in simpler and export to Impulse.

Am I being daft?

its possible, I do it all the time. Just click and drag the box underneath the tune knob.... don't have it right in front of me, but it is there somewhere: change the precentage and it will finetune.

Yeah, that box is the velocity sensitivity box. The problem with that is if you vary velocities to add some dynamics to your drums you're also gonna be altering pitch.

Yes, fine tuning on the Impulse samples is a feature that definitely needs to be added. I often use Impulse for pitched samples and it's quite annoying that there's no fine tune. I've used the velocity trick that you mention but as you say it's not really a satisfactory solution.

you can hold down one of the modifier keys (cant remember which one) and press the arrow buttons and it will fine adjust.

It's the shift button.
Arrow up/down will add/reduce by 0.01 semitones.

Wow, I never noticed that. How totally weird. Are there any other text input boxes in Live that work that way?

Wicked!!

Thanks a lot for that :D Very very useful.

Was thinking it was a bit of daft thing to leave out. Is that one not in the manual? I did do my best to look.

You can also click on the value and type it in. BTW sample volume and global volume can also be fine-altered using the shift/arrow commands, as can global pitch, also use it on time to jump by 10% as opposed to 1%.
