Audio Editing??!!
Can anyone recomend a good audio editing program that works well with Ableton? It would be nice to cut up recoeded audio without having to import and export files.

Sound Forge is the best. v8 supports VST's as well.
flowles work and quite stable. great onboard plugins as well. WaveHammer is one of the best compressors i've tried.

Have to agree with AdamJay... DSPQuattro is a great piece of software... and support is fantastic (must say that I've been in their office and Stefano spent 1 hour just explaining me some of the features...) Yes, they were the minds behind Spark XL... and it's not only a great editor... it's a fantastic tool for sound design, and it can be modular aswell, since you can record from different lines-in while you play any vst instrument (and record that) and you can play a file as well... almost a seq. must say... quite usefull, straight forward and just $149... and they do not charge lots of money for upgrades (if they do... last been $20)
Sorry, but its just a good soft...

I'll use this space to pimp Audacity once again.
It's free, and that's the main reason I like it. I use it for applying effects to audio clips, the occasional multi-track recording, and minor audio editing. It hosts VSTs too. Did I mention that it's free?

Roughly cut out the loops in Sound Forge and set the loop points in Ableton. If you want to cut out individual elements of the loop, I would use Recycle.beatsfreak wrote:Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.
I'm sampling from records and all I want to do is cut the sample down to 1 or 2 bars I use to do it in Cubase 5 and Logic, but now I'm OSX and need something that supports core audio. i just simply want to create loops.

heya,
i reckon, i gotta sing the praises of using live as a kinda audio-editor...
like, you really can do everything you need to within live itself...at least everything Re-cycle can do, using clip automation... then if you want to make it permament, just consolidate it.
...and i reckon the best thing about it is that it is all non-destructive...
i've done heaps of stuff with just live, in fact during the recording of my latest record, and i can't think of one time i've actually used an external audio editor.... but i guess i probably will when it comes to topping and tailing tracks for mastering.
