Korg nanokontrol+microkey vs axiom 25 or Nocturn

Post by solipsys » Sat Nov 23, 2013 5:17 pm

Looking to pick up a 25 key midi and trying to see if anyone has been using that korg setup vs and all in one 25 key or if it's worth it to spend the extra money $$$ for the novation/axiom.

Well, I can say for sure you'll want to think about whether you want endless encoders or not, because that is one notable difference in your options.
Very hard for me to say because I have an Axiom 49 *and* Nanokontrol, and like both of them, for different reasons. I don't really care for the encoders on the Axiom though because of the clicking/zipper sound they make when you increment them (I usually use the endless encoders on my dj controller, yes, I have too many controllers) and would say the Nocturn has the best combination of features of the things you mention.

I've heard people complain that the drum pads on Akai stuff have a terrible response. They actually sell kits and there are tutorials everywhere on how to fix them with either little bits of cork, or affixing electrical tape to the bottom of the pads. Other than that it looks like a decent enough option.

I am using microkey 37 and happy with that.
One issue though.

If you authorize the M1Le then it seems that korg is replacing the default midi driver with the korg one.
and then Ableton stops seeing the keyboard as midi device.
