Midi keyboard not doing what I tell it to do! Help please...

Post by lolalola » Sun Dec 15, 2013 5:53 pm

I have an EMU Shortboard 49 midi keyboard. I've turned the channel select dial on the back to 'CH1'.
When I midi map the knobs, I'm getting knobs sometimes map to two parameters where I only want it mapped to the one I map (CC73 for example in the screenshot below).

What am I doing wrong?

Automap? My guess is using a Novation Automap wrapped plugin with your EMU controller won't work?

There's no Automap going on - some of my plugins are saying that, it's quite annoying. But either way, it's the same with Ableton instruments too .....?

Are the fader and the filter knob set to the same cc?

Or does the filter knob sometimes glitch out on its own?

Do you Only have this issue with cc 73?

What happens in mapping mode if it occurs, and then you hit Undo?

Does seeeeeem to be a CC73 thing, I dunno? Same with this :

I've ditched the automap presets, so it's not that. What do you mean, hit undo?

That all looks like some very strange behavior.

Is the keyboard the only midi device you have connected right now? Do you have any midi loop back or feedback programs installed? They would show up in MIDI Preferences. I'd turn them off if you're not using them.

When mapping, you choose a parameter on screen, then move a knob. Then choose another parameter, and move a new knob, right?

When I say 'undo' I mean, like the menu Undo, or Ctrl+z. When midi mapping, some devices send several midi cc's at once. Like a kaoss pad. It'll send x AND y, an old trick is to map a parameter, and if the wrong cc shows up to hit Undo, then the Other parameter shows up, they map in order basically. So if you hit Undo, either you'll unmap the parameter entirely, OR, a different number will show up. If a different number shows up, that is a sign that somehow a second knob must have accidentally moved. Which is common for older keyboards, they get loosey goosey.

- yep, just the keyboard...

- it seems to do the same thing each time, if that makes sense. I mean, they're mapping to the same cc values each time,
ie the 'cutoff' knob always maps to cc74, 'resonance' to cc71, 'attack' to cc73, 'decay/release' to cc75, 'chorus' to cc93 and 'reverb' to cc91. Oh, and the slider to cc7. Weirdly the 'volume' knob maps to nothing, so I assume then it just doesn't send midi. Which is very annoying, cos I wanted to map that knob!

Your slider might be sending 74.
