Getting A New Macbook. Would this work fine?
Getting A New Macbook. Would this work fine?
My old regular white macbook crapped out on me and was thinking about getting very serious with producing on Ableton/Logic Pro X.
This is the one I'm thinking of getting.....
13-inch: 2.4GHz
with Retina display
Specifications
2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
256GB PCIe-based flash storage1
Intel Iris Graphics
Built-in battery (9 hours)2
$1,499.00
Would this work perfectly fine if I'm getting serious with producing and adding VST's and messing around with MPC keyboards/Ableton Push?
All I'm using the computer for is music producing/facebook/soundcloud.

I don't care about the Retina at all. I just care if the hardware will be able to run both programs and any other software I need without hiccups. If Ableton adds that later then fine. Anybody?

Retina is the most awesome thing ever.
Re: Getting A New Macbook. Would this work fine?
I have the exact same spec MBP as the one you've listed and it works a treat.
Ignore the retina debate... if you're anything like me, you'll have it hooked up to a nice large monitor anyway. The native res on the 13" pro is very low (1366x800) and doesn't give enough work space when in Retina mode.
I have mine set out of Retina mode (1650x1050) and is much more user friendly for the rare occasion I need to use Live when away from my studio
Get it, you wont be disappointed.

Do you mean that you can run a macbook pro out of retina mode ?
MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.

Yep, in the Display settings, you can select Retina or various other resolutions.chapelier fou wrote:Do you mean that you can run a macbook pro out of retina mode ?
I find that 1650x1050 on the 13" screen is perfect and gives me more space than my older 15" MBP (non-retina).

Although we're all waiting for Ableton to be optimized for Retina, I personally don't find it that bad to use. And for everything else I use my 'pooter for, any true hi-res screen is frikkin' awesome. It's not specific to Mac's "Retina" but give me hi resolution everywhere! No going back, for me. Even 1080p doesn't cut it on some computer screens, I considered a Sony Vaio Pro 13, but text and web look relatively pixelated even at that res. But Mac's Retina, or Asus's 1080p zenbook, Yoga 2 pro, etc, look awesome. (although I'm now a happy Mac convert).Dblaze6 wrote:I don't care about the Retina at all. Thank you guys! Really appreciate the help!

I wish I never read this thread because I have been using a 13 inch MBP latest version, in native retina mode, and have no problems, it works great. Now I'll be scrutinizing it for issues
I am trying 1680 x 1050 right now, and there is lots of space but the words are pretty tiny.
Anyway, if someone says retina is a problem I am not sure what they are talking about. It's an outstanding display if you ask me. Furthermore, pretty nearly every single thing on the laptop is great.
