Live and Symbolic Links (Mac)

Post by re:dream » Fri Jan 17, 2014 12:12 pm

If I were to

(1) have a user library in folder x

(2 create a Symbolic Link to that library

(3) put that symbolic link elsewhere (folder y)

(4) and point Live to the symbolic link

- would it find the library?

I called Ableton support but they are unsure.

I will experiment, but I wondered if anyone has experience of this

i haven't tried it but it will probably work. however, i don't really get why you would want to do it that way. why not just change the Library location in the Live prefs?

By doing this, you can run one command on the terminal on multiple machines and don't have to change anything in Ableton Live.

In fact, I'd love it if the User Library contained the Template.als file, as then I wouldn't have to screw around with

/Users/esaruoho/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live 10.0.6b1/Template.als

and then have to re-save it when installing a new version of beta or finished app.
