Windows XP Users: MME/DirectX vs. ASIO?

What are your thoughts between the two different driver types. How have your experiences been? Pros/Cons?
(Note: M-Audio Audiophile 192, on Intel P4 3GHz, 800MHz FSB, w/ 512MB DDR2 RAM, IDE ATA-100 HD)

I use the ASIO4ALL driver with my Soundblaster Extigy USB soundcard and it's cut my latency from 45 ms (with the manufacturers drivers) to 8 ms. So I'd say my experience was extremely positive with ASIO4ALL.

Interesting. I'm using MME/DirectX at the moment. When I switch to ASIO, I hear no audio even though the VU meter in the M-Audio Monitor Mixer shows movement.

asio is best, certainly when your card manufacturer makes a card specific asio driver.
with my maudio asio driver I get about 6 ms latency, with a 'standard' asio driver its ay worse than that.

I re-booted, did not change settings, and all systems go.

I attempted to utilize the ASIO setting.

*I failed to mention that I'm trying to monitor the 1/4-inch TRS Inputs and SPDIF Outputs at the same time. I altered many settings to no avail.

Is it unfeasible to monitor TRS Inputs and SPDIF Outputs at the same time?

I seem to have the same problem, I was changing my audio preferences according to the tutorial and while doing that I was listening music. Now when I changed from MME/DirectX to ASIO all of a sudden my music stopped playing. But the interesting part is is that only in ASIO I can hear the test tone.

I'm a real noob, started with Reaper a week ago and now trying Ableton but I really am green at this. So I would appreciate any help at all.

Regards.

Asio is way better than direct x. I have never been able to get control of a soundcard once Live has started (i am using xp). So I have to set up soundcard so that spdif is fine with me.... using the proprietary control panel and then start up live.
