Thoughts on Maschine 2.0 software?

Post by TheNobleNemesis » Mon Jan 27, 2014 2:08 am

I already own Maschine Mikro.. Would it be worth switching over to the new software?

Considering all of the new features, I wouldn't think so..

It is a pretty solid upgrade.

A couple of things to consider though.

1. Certain things have changed mostly for the better, but the methods of setting Maschine up in Ableton to trigger kits in via Ableton software in midi is different now. Expect a learning curve. That said Maschine 2.0 feels more solid in standalone mode.

2. The Maschine control template is no longer working. I can't remember though if Maschine 2.0 broke this or Ableton 9.1. I think though that someone created a Maschine control native mode though (for the mkII). I believe it is not free though unlike the previous mode.

That said, more kits, mulitcore support, drumsynths, sidechaining are the big things for me. A couple of smaller things I like is that input quantize is now easier to get to from the hardware, and Maschine 2.0 also has a Record Ready mode which allows you to do things like preset the pattern lengths and such. It is a pretty handy feature. The new browser seems about the same to me (even though it has more color candy). I think the Maschine Studio users probably appreciate the improvements from the browswer more than the older model users but I am not a Maschine power user though. I just use it for small support roles in Live mainly.

Most stuff though feels like it was always there.

My feelings about 2.0 are ambivalent. I bought a Studio and love the way to use in the new software. Much has improved but the Midi options to setup Maschine within a DAW have lost it`s power totally. I still get probelms when dragging Midi from Maschine to Live. The loss of these features are a big problem and working with Maschine 2 in Live have become more complicated. I still hope that NI works hard on these issues and will bring back the real power of Maschine.

imo yes. Some people do not like how Maschine 2.0 integrates with their DAW but personally I think 2.0 is a no brainer if you own Maschine

I have noticed since upgrading to 2.0 that all of my pre-2.0 projects (and the pre-2.0 expansions and content) run much smoother and seem to be demanding less of the CPU when running Maschine inside Ableton (and in stand alone I might add).

HOWEVER.. I have noticed that the latest 2.0 expansion packs, Halycon Sky and Resonant Blaze (which only work with 2.0) seem to really push the CPU like nothing else I've seen in Maschine. Of all the expansion packs, they also sound the best IMHO!

Also, I agree with others here that the 2.0 update is definitely worth it for existing Maschine owners!

i own maschine and iam mostly interested into the new drumsynth. i dont care about the midi limitations, cause i just use maschine as a drummaschine in live or as sampler. Atm maschine 1.8 takes 15 percent per instance on my i7. Will ther be much improvement?

To be honest, i would like to get a discount on komplete ultimate much more then an cheap update of maschine :P

This!

I was lucky enough to score Komplete Ultimate 9 for $370 due to the 50% Thanksgiving Sale late last year, which included 50% off the already reduced crossgrade price for Maschine owners! I had been contemplating getting the crossgrade for over a year, so it was a definite 'no-brainer' for me when the sale started. Very happy with that score, thanks NI!

Back on topic though - Whilst I'm still getting my head around the new features of the 2.0 software, I really can't rate the new 2.0 expansion packs high enough! The quality difference between them and the pre-2.0 packs is HUGE imo!
