Run Mac Ableton projects on Windows running Ableton

Post by SilverNeedle » Tue Feb 11, 2014 10:24 pm

I'm not sure if this is obvious or not... Has anyone tried running Mac projects on a Window's system?

Any gotchas to be aware of? Is it not possible or does it work nicely?

cheers

Hmmm... So does that mean it doesn't work at all or I'm meant to think it does then it doesn't? Not getting the red eyed face thing :?

Its pretty much a no brainer.

Use the same version of live, collect and save and make sure both computers have all the same plugins. Thats it

OK ace... I've heard before that Mac can add extra bit's to some files and stuff, so wasn't sure if this might have created issues in this scenario, glad to hear it's worked for you though :)

No problem - I used to move projects between OSX and windows a lot. Both running same versions of Live. Use collect all and save to avoid problem with different paths to samples etc. This assumes you have the required plugins available on both OSs. I assume that if you use AU plugin on OSX, then that will mess it up - I used to always use VSTs versions when I was moving stuff around a lot.
Nothing to see here - move along!

There is pretty much perfect cross platform compatability. Until about three weeks ago I used to sync my projects between PC using mac using Dropbox. (No need to even collect all and save)

One thing: I noticed if you save a project on Mac, Live on windows displays it as a folder, not as a live project icon. And vice versa. But that's a detail. The project still loads and saves perfectly.

Another confirmation. I actually used to run Live via Parallels and pointed the Windows Live to the Library on the Mac side.
I don't 'produce.' I write music.
