32 vs 64 bit MBP vs MacPro question

Post by yoyodyne » Sun Feb 23, 2014 10:36 pm

For years I've only had a 2008 MacBookPro 17inch for production. I've stayed at Snow Leopard and 32 bit Ableton because with the ram maxed out at 4 GB I saw no advantage in upgrading.

Well yesterday I rescued two MacPro towers from a dumpster, and one of them works! (The other one made a very loud fan sound and had no picture on the monitor I hooked up - it has a different, much bigger graphic card that I think has it's own fan, and apparently doesn't work with my monitor - anyway it's too loud for audio)

So now I have a "2 x 3 GHz Duel-Core Intel Xeon, 8 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB, SN: G871917ZUPZ" with Lion 10.7.5 installed. For free. Hell yeah!

So my question is - Will sessions move between 64 bit and 32 bit Abletons, or is it better to upgrade the OS to Mavericks on both machines? What would you do?

Sessions move with no problem between 32-bit and 64-bit, the only limitation (as always) is that the same plug-ins have to be installed on both platforms. And my advises is to migrate to Mavericks!
