I sold my Octatrack to buy an acoustic guitar!

No recommendations for the OP-1? After watching lots of vids I think this thing looks great. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the 4 track tape recorder thing, but maybe that's part of the charm.

If wanted one for awhile, it's definitely a cool device. For writing complete tracks though, there's definitely a very unique workflow to it. You'll need to be comfortable with no syncing between tracks, not much detailed editing, and limited tools. It's a sweet little box, but definitely so,thinning you need to be comfortable working with the limitations to get the most out of.

Check the Teenage forums, lots of details there on some of the limitations that tend to frustrate some users.

I've never seen something look so unappealing for that much money... It looks like a $29.99 kids toy...

I do. I was thinking about trying some apps but for me the ipad doesn't feel like an instrument. (Maybe I have issues...)

To the OP: When you say 'getting away from the computer', do you mean no computer involved at all, or just that you don't want to be sitting in front of a screen?

Depending on where you have your workstation setup could you run a longer USB cable and use your Push and iPad running Touchable (or other). Save yourself a bit of money.

Or just blow £1000 on a bloody Octatrack.

btw isn't the RTYM essentially an Octatrack with Pads?

I dabbled with getting an OP-1 for a while for the same reason but I just can't justify blowing that sort of cash.

I'd rather no computer at all. I want something I can just pick up and play with. Having something I can stick in a backpack and use when I travel is also appealing.

Nah, totally different beasts.
