Which brass instruments make up a good soundin brass section

Post by 7cev » Sun Apr 27, 2014 12:25 pm

.....to complement songs much like the songs in Blur's 'The Great Escape' album?

Loving the sound.

Also how many of each instrument?

Thanks in advance

Usually a combination of trumpets, trombones, and maybe tenor sax.

If you want something more orchestral try adding french horns.

If you want deepness try adding a tuba.

I tend to think of french horns for romance and melancholy. Increase the sax component for raunch and sleaze, increase the trumpet and trombone for, er, funk?

Synthetic horns and wind instruments are very hard to program, because the real thing has such a variation of continuous expresion. Swells, movement between notes, etc, are not well suited to sample libraries. How I tend to do it is program it as best I can with the instruments, then render each instrument to audio and edit & splice the audio to get the note transitions right, and automate eq, room, and saturation on them to get the tonal variations.

I read somewhere in the internet that Chris Hein Horns come with Kontakt. They sound great but I do not know if they would work "well" with Ableton Live Studio 9.
