Need tipps for suitable sample packages

Post by Tomcraft » Wed May 07, 2014 8:46 pm

Hey there,

I am playing around with Ableton Live for about half a year now, learned a lot and now I want to go to the next level. My plan is to try to produce some techno tracks, but I figured I need better samples than these which are delivered with Live. I downloaded some free samples, but they dont really offer what i expect and they often sound kinda old and have low qaulity. I now need your help and I need tipps which samples or plugins are suitable for me. I am willing to pay for them as long as they dont cost too much (maybe 200€/280$).

To describe the style I want to produce I will post some of my favourite tracks of my favourite artists. The style differs a bit from artist to artist. I am sure its worth to hear, even if you have no idea how to help! :)

Rampue (my fav):

HVOB:
Dogs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubJugsfyeM8

Oliver Schories:

Are there also any plugins I need? I googled Massive, but heard its more a trance thing? Is that right?

Thanks in Advance,

Tom

Not into deadmau5, but that xfer sample pack of his is pretty awesome. I think you can get it for a hundred bones on loopmasters.

Thanks a lot! Deadmau5 is very much into progressive house and not into my style, but the demo indeed sound nice. I might give it a try! However, does anyone have any other idea? Is there something else that suits more to my examples?

Also, can someone recommend a plugin/synthesizer etc.. that I by all means need?

Thanks!

I love Oliver Schories' Music :)

A great bank with a lot of good single hit drum samples and a nice starting point for loops/chopping etc... It's also one of my main go to banks:

Steve Lawler Dark Percussive House & Techno

Especially good drums for dance music, house and techno in particular.
Ableton Live 10 Suite / Push 2 / Max 8 /

Save your money, Ableton's drums are excellent. I have no doubt you achieve the result in the videos above with a bit of clever processing and well chosen sounds. Get tweaking.Build some racks with he samples you like.

I made the mistake of wasting money on sample packs that I now don't bother with, the only exceptions being Goldbaby's super analog 808 and http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/superanalog808.html and Tape 909 http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/tape909.html majority of the time I use ableton's drums

As far as plug ins go, yes buy massive if you love the sound but don't ignore Operator for low end techno duties, it's bloody excellent. Check this 12 min Vid out to get an idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZVM9sxBZOI

Good luck.
