What's your Audio Interface?

Post by Amanuel » Tue May 20, 2014 8:19 am

I'm looking for a solid AI for under 840 bucks, no recording, only mixing, sampling etc.

Whats your choice?

For mixing and sampling you only require 2 in and 2 out (unless you plan on doing surround mixes).

$840? Is that your real number or a typo?

Win or Mac?

USB, FW, Thunderbolt?

Bus powered or not?

Not sure what you mean, but I will mostly just sample and add bass lines etc, lot's of vocal mixing, loads of reverb etc.

Windows8 I7 Acer 16 ram laptop.

Usb3 port.

I'm Norwegian, money isn't the same here as in the rest of the world.

Whats the difference between a 100$ interface and a 800$ interface if I won't be usning multiple channels?
Might perform live etc though!

I've been using the Audient iD22 for the past month. It's converters are super-duper clean! They are the best sub $1000 converters I have heard. Plus it has a several programable monitoring buttons that I never thought I would use and now use all the time. It was an upgrade from a digi002, then before that a presonus firebox, then before that a line6 gearbox. I would say the Audient converters are on par with many of the $1500-2500 range units.

SPL Crimson, UA Apollo Twin, and RME stuff also have solid ad/da converters.

I don't use any external audio - just plugins.

My m-audio audiophile is 2 in 2 out - rock solid low latency - everything I could ever need unless I dj.

$840 is 840 dollars anywhere in the world.

in fact $840 is worth less than 840 dollars in Norway because you have to pay to convert it into the Norwegian Zonk before you can buy anything with it.

For $840 you can get yourself a recording studio these days....

I went with RMI babyface. I was about to buy the Focusrite Scarlett 6i6, but went with the babyface because of the extra input/outputs even though I dont need them now, might be good for the future!

you could have spent the saving on NI Komplete - but since money is no object just buy that anyway - in fact buy all audio interfaces just in case you need them!

Why, what's the problem with it?
