The change log of the brand new beta 9.1.3b7 says

"Fixed a bug which caused audio dropouts and increased CPU usage in Live Sets
containing several third party plugins, particularly when using low buffer sizes."

Sounds like a big fix, might be worth a try...

I recently managed to demonstrate another (different) issue which has been identified and the first part of it has been solved in recent betas. Moving notes in a stopped set when AAS and VST instruments in set would peak the CPU.
Theres a second part , and they should have a fix at some point. It's my longest standing bug with all versions of L9 and they saw my video of the issue and have said " ah yes, we see it" . So, I'm really looking forward to that one.

The bug looks like this, and sounds like lots of crackling

Yep, I get this too. Win 7 64-bit, Live 9 32 bit.

PC win7 , Live 9 x64 version.

but it doesn't really because matter because the first part of this issue is fixed in recent betas (where VSTs and AAS instruments re-activate when the playhead is stopped, but notes are moved), and the larger remaining part is now identified as a new "story" and they are working on it.

there's nothing more satisfying than an identifiable, repeatable, demonstrable bug. Once you have it cornered you can study it. But for a long while I felt like I was describing Sasquatch. Now the sasquatch is in a cage.

I've never tested whether I get crackling while moving midi notes while the audio engine is running like Angstrom. However, I have observed that crackling is more pronounced when vst GUIs are open. So it seems like both sources of crackling might be related to what is being displayed by Live. Similarly, I got crackling when I split Live across two monitors--again potentially a display-related issue. Crackling on my system also seemed to be related to high cpu vsts - namely, DUNE 2 and Tremor.

Installed the latest Beta (9.1.3b8) and nearly all crackling is gone.

I have a fairly low spec. machine so this is a nice fix. :-)
