They haven't released a formal statement on compatibility yet, and I for one am utterly dismayed by Ableton's slow response to this, why are they not ready?

 Exactly. When you enter Apple's playground, you have to move swiftly. There's no "time outs" in the Apple World!

It isn't on my MacBook, and developer preview 1 was very unstable with some apps I have installed. Latest version of live crashed at startup.

Does OS X Yosemite preview 1 fix PDC?

Apple users won't complain much because the OS X is free.

Apple has always updated the OS this often. Just Apple like to give it a silly name and over-market it, never quite sure why to be honest.

Apple used code names for their internal betas for early OSX versions, puma, cheeta etc. people got wind of the nicknames and started calling them that, so when 10.2 was released they called it Jaguar. Sort of accidental branding really.

Well one thing is certain, developers have to, Apple users are way more likely to adopt a new OS than Windows users. If the the WWDC graphs are even half accurate, it's something like 50% Mavericks users out there to 15% Windows 8 users in terms of updating the OS.
