Small question about Roland TR8

Post by nc2010 » Tue Jun 03, 2014 8:22 am

Hi,

For somebody who owns a Roland TR8 : if you create a pattern with some "accent", does the MIDI sent to MIDI OUT (recorded to computer in Ableton for example) have the accents? Do you see velocity differences in the recorded MIDI clip ?

Thanks a lot in advance ! :)

All the notes on mine are recorded with the same velocity even accented ones.

Thanks @Syver for having done this test ! :)

Such a shame.... I hoped that the velocity would be different according to the accents... :(
(in order to use the TR8 as well as a sequencer for some other drummachines)

By the way, if there is some shuffle/swing (you can test with high values of shuffle), are the recorded MIDI notes shuffled as well?

I love my tr8 but there are a few things that need to be addressed. This being one of them.

@TheoVoid, is the MIDI sent to MIDI OUT "shuffled" if there is some shuffle programmed on the TR8 (with Shuffle knob) ?

Accents are covered in the TR-8 midi implementation chart through so what are we missing ?

... that the footnote #2-Symbol is in the Recognized column of the Velocity row: it translates various velocity ranges into accent values.

The Transmitted column on the other hand states v=80 for note on and v=0 for note off.
