Slow Rendering

Post by SLEEarts » Fri Jun 20, 2014 7:08 pm

Hello,

I recently built a new computer specifically for Live based on a very powerful Intel i7 4770k. When I work in Live in real-time, it's beautiful. Tons and Tond of tracks with effects, synths, VSTi's, etc and the processor hardly seems to notice. When I go to render, though, it seems very slow. I checked the CPU usage and disk usage, and both are low during the render. CPU tends to stay well below 15% and disk usage is well below 10 MB/s. I've tested the disk at well above 100 MB/s I/O.

Any ideas on why Live isn't using the computer's resources to speed up the render?

Live will render in real-time especially when you have an external synth active in the mix. Without external synth, it will typically render in less than real time.

No external hardware, so I was expecting fast renders with the new processor. The bit depth/sample rate don't seem to matter much... The processor never goes much beyond 15-20% total capacity and the drive stays well below 10 MB/S. It's faster than realtime, but much slower than it could be.

Live 8 or 9? As of v9.1 , Live uses multiple cores when rendering, whereas previous versions only used 1 core..

I run into this same issue. same processer. Why is ableton throttling the cpu to 25% while rendering? I want it to use all the cores at least max it to 50%.

I suspect I have a plugin that is doing some crazy upsampling while rendering. how do i uncover the suspect?

what i've discovered is that i'm using drum racks to trigger nepheton which have multiouts.i'm using the external instruments to route them into the right channel. Render speeds are extremely terrible with this method.
