This has been confirmed by Cycling, when in an unregistered demo there will be audio drop outs caused by Max 7

Hi S4racen,

Do you have any link, or source regarding confirmation by Cycling74, which includes what they were confirming? There has been no indication from our conversations with C74 that audio dropouts are an intended consequence of the license being introduced for developers.

It seems that audio dropouts are most likely due to errors, from the new Max 7 release (there are a huge number of errors fixed in the changelog of Max 7.0.1)

Max for Live, using Max 7 is free to use and fully comptaible with Live 9 for end users. According to C74 they are not planning on charging end users for Max for Live, which uses Max 7. They are charging developers for Max 7 though (who want to edit devices).

That also appears to be how it is explained from C74 FAQ:

https://cycling74.com/support/faq-maxforlive/

Is Max 6 or 7 compatible with Max for Live?

Ableton Live 9: Max 7 is compatible with Live 9 , and you can use Max 7 as the Max for Live editor if you are a Max 7 license holder.

And the same from Ableton website:

https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/max-7-compatiblity/

Is Max 7 compatible with Live 9?

If you own a full Max 7 stand-alone license, you can use Max 7 as your Max for Live editor.

Users who only own a regular Max for Live license will need to use Max 6 as their editor.

There seems to be a lot of confusion for max for live users around the release of Max 7. Hopefully this can dispel these myths.

Cheers

Initially I was having a lot of dropouts with Max 7 - I could see in the signal chain that it was the PULL device dropping the signal as the devices before had signal, and the ones after did not.

The same thing would happen with my DIVA template - I could hit a note repeatedly, and eventually there would be a complete drop out of audio - from the DIVA patch.

I wasn't sure what was happening, or why.. but wouldn't get the same dropouts using Max 6 (and using the older PULL for max6 version).

Eventually screwed around with Max 7 registration/trial and think it might have had something to do with licensing or activating the demo of Max 7 that finally made the dropouts stop. Still not entirely sure though since I was just screwing around.
Hi Cotdagoo,

Just confirming that as of Max 7.0.2 the audio dropouts are not happening any more. Max 7.0.2 works just fine with Ableton 9 even after the demo period. There was a problem with previous versions of Max 7 (7.0.1) which prevented Ableton from authorising Max 7 properly. However, this has been addressed in the new Max 7.0.2 update.

Cheers

We're just about to release PULL v3 shortly, which will bring Live 9.5 compatibility and a host of new improvements, features etc.

For those that want to use the Live 9.5 functionality before the official release, there are some download files "Live 9.5 Device Templates" that have been added to the PULL download. These will need to be added to the template folder under LiveDevices, but also added to the large_template if this is being used (there is a numbered tab and container for each device).

We're about to launch V3.1 of our PULL software. This includes a new feature where you can make multiple templates for a particular Device or VST. For instance you can have the main Sylenth1 template, and then another smaller Sylenth1 template including the main controls (cutoff, resonance, xy pads, arpeggiator etc). It's going to be awesome :) We've also got lots of new templates and new software coming so stay tuned...
