Why do the volume peaks change when you drop in an EQ?

Post by bgelber » Sun Jul 27, 2014 9:13 pm

When playing an untouched track from itunes on ableton, the peak is nice and tidy at 0.0 dB. But then I drop an EQ Three effect onto the audio track, and suddenly the peaks are much higher, easily going into the red zone.
Why??? Am i doing something wrong??

No, that's normal for EQ3, it has some color of it's own apparently and affects the peak even when you're not boosting. I made version using EQ8's that gets around this, as well as putting the "0" spot at 12 o'clock too if you're interested:

It's the EQ 3.8 rack.
