Bass drum and Bass line on separate track interacting.

Hello Guys. I am new to Ableton, and new to music production in general but have been spending a bunch of time on it and am loving it so far. Great to know that this forum exists for some help when needed, and hopefully I will eventually be able to provide some help to somebody down on the road.

Two issues I am having.

1. I have finished one track and uploaded it to my sound cloud. I have noticed, that the volume of the track is about half that of a track in say "Spotify". This is begin with the max volume set just below a distortion level in the master track within Ableton before exporting it. How do I fix this without reaching a distortion level?

2. I have a track that I am working on and the kick drum is a "Kick-606" and I tried to lay down a bass line in the next midi track and it sounded terrible like the two were interacting. How do I fix this?

Thank you so much to anybody who can help me out.

-H

You want to compress and limit in your mastering process. You only want to cut out about 3db on the limiter though. Don't muck with the overall track volume, turn up the gain on the limiter so you get about 3 db cut out. Have a look here for some great advice: http://tarekith.com/helpandsounds/

Regarding bass and kick, EQ using notches or cuts in the bassline where the kicks fundamental frequency is, or better yet have your bassline in higher frequencies than the kick or vice versa. Sidechaining the bass to the kick also helps a great deal.
