Just revisiting sends on Group track and it appears ableton approached the group sends
is very illogical manner.
We currently have group Volume which controls the overall output of all tracks in the group.
Obviously each track in the group must have its volume level set above 0 to allow it to send through the Group volume.
However when it comes to Group Sends
It appears that group send takes signal from the group volume and sends the signal to the sends channels regardless of any or all send levels for each track in the group.
Logically, all sends in the group would first go through to the group send and then group send levels are then passed to the master sends channels.
At least thats how it should work.. right?
Did they get it wrong? (Group sends)
Re: Did they get it wrong? (Group sends)
If you want to send individual drum rack channels to global returns you have to add a return chain in the group and then set it's output to the global return.

There are times when you want to send a certain amount of the individual channels in a group, and then another amount for the entire group. So if something like this is implemented, it should be switchable.Quinnx wrote:Logically, all sends in the group would first go through to the group send and then group send levels are then passed to the master sends channels.
Although, having a fader knob in the master section next to the pre/post switch for each send would be a nice feature. Most analog mixing boards have this.

There is no 'Master Send."
Sends on group tracks work the same way that sends on audio tracks work. In Ableton, sends are summed after the effects and passed on to the return tracks. Switching pre/post defines if the signal come pre-volume fader or post-volume fader.
Say you have a clean Group track (called "Group 1") containing 1 track ("Track 1"), the output is routed to the Group. Turning up completely send A on Track 1 creates a copy of the output and sends it to the send ("Return A"). Since there are no effects on Group 1, Group 1's output is equal to Track 1's output and turning up send A on Group 1 sends ANOTHER copy of Track 1 to Return A.
Group sends to not scale the sends appointed on each track. Group sends are useful for sending bussed mixes to a return channel.
