Don't install the 9.1.6 update.

Post by kb420 » Mon Nov 17, 2014 1:14 am

My largest live set refuses to open in 9.1.6. I have two computers, both using Windows 8.1. My 64 bit desktop doesn't have a problem, but my 32 laptop will not open some of my Live sets that were created with Live 9.1.5.

My L9.1.6. is very hard to start, it takes about 3 or 4 tries to get past the insta-crash. It also freezes a lot.
Sadly theres no available download link for the previous version.

The set loads about half way, and then I get an error message saying that a serious error has occurred, and that I should restart Live and send the crash report.

My automatic updates wouldn't install 9.1.6, so I installed it myself. When I did, I overwrote the old version. I REALLY wish I didn't do that now!!!! Smdh.

I have auto update OFF for the "stable" version. I can't remember which one updated that gave me so much grief. Sadly, the betas seem to work best......I have no idea why.

I've been running Live 9.1.6 for months no problems.

Live 9.1.6 64bit
Windows 8.1 64bit

The 32bit version may not be able to load some projects with a few large sampled instruments or more . 32bit Live is limited to using 3.2GB of a computers RAM. If a project goes over this it crashes Live.

If you want to run projects larger than 3.2Gb on 32bit Live buy Jbridge I'm not sure if it will convert one project to a bridged one though. There is a demo for Jbridge. The PC and MAc versions are sold separately.

For other problems
Try starting live in admin mode that gives Live more windows permissions.
Another thing you can do is download the beta it's more up to date but may have more bugs. There was a time when I would only use the beta because it was more stable than the release.

FWIW sometimes when I've had problems loading a saved set I try doing it with the audio engine disabled and it manages to work.

i think its always good to keep a version of the last build - just rename it in the applications folder.. just for this reason.

I foolishly activated auto-update in a rare moment of optimism that an upcoming release would fix my L9 clicking problems. The update did not fix the problem, and brought crashes instead.
Optimism will not happen again.

I created the set on the same 32 bit laptop that won't load the set now since installing 9.1.6.

Do you have any M4L devices in your startup set?
Live 11 Suite (64 bit)
Windows 10 (64 bit)
Plugins galore

Yes I do, and I think that's the problem. My template set has the Convolution Pro Reverb in, and an LFO.
