Condensor mic won't work... but i have all the ingredients

Post by masturbeater » Tue Nov 18, 2014 3:49 am

So i recently bought the CAD GXL2200 condenser mic and
a PRESONUS AUDIOBOX with 48v phantom power,
my cord is a female xlr to male 1/4 inch jack with a male xlr adaptor on the end
i'm trying to run it through ableton but can't get any signal from the mic, however if i plug in my shitty $10 mic it works fine.

I've selected the presonus as input through abletons preferences armed the track and selected the right channel.

Is there something i'm missing or did i get sold a busted mic?

please help.

Yes, I agree use an XLR cable for less problems.

With the setup you have, there might be something not transmitting the power, the 1/4 jack, the adapter or both.

If a condenser mic requires phantom power, you absolutely must use a cable with two conductors plus shield.

A normal 1/4 cable might have not been carrying over the voltage to power the mic.

Also the XLR has some noise canceling properties you might lose out on though.

A balanced 1/4 might have worked though.
