How to open .als files with Live x32 by default? W8x64

Post by akamed » Sun Nov 30, 2014 7:53 pm

I have both installations in my computer, Ableton Live 9.1.6 x32 and x64.
I am using Windows 8.1 x64.
I am using Live x32 by default. It´s the one I always open for working with my projects.
But I have the problem that when I doubleclick an ALS file to open it, opens with Live x64.
I tried to change that by the "Open with..." option, but it always opens it with the x64.
I have also tried to change the deafult program to "notepad" and after change it to open with x32, but it always goes back to the x64 versión.
I think it could be happening because both programs have the exactly the same name (but are stored in different folders).
Anybody knows how to override this?
Thanks!
Ruben

You might put a shortcut to your x32 installation on the desktop (or wherever you start your programs from). Or if there are numerous programs, a folder that contains the shortcuts. You could also make a folder for the x64 shortcuts if you needed them).

Thanks Buleriachk,

but that is not the problem. I have a shortcut already and works.
The problem happens when I try to open any .als file, it opens with 64bit Live and not with 32bit, and I am not being able to change that behaviour by changing the "open with..." option in the Shell (right mouse button over the .als file). I change it but it keeps opening with the 64bit version.

Best regards,

Ruben.

What happens if you drag the .als file onto the x64 version icon?

In that case it works, opens the 32bit version, that´s a way of doing it.
But I want that if I double click on the .als file, it opens with the 32bit version and not with the 64bit.
Thanks Garry.

Try this:

Right-click the file. Select "Open with..."
In the resulting dialog box, check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
If the version of Live you want is in the list of programs presented to you, select it. Otherwise, click "Browse..." and find it.
