you need 6 outputs for 5.1manmanly wrote:is there are way to set up live 4 with outputs from a m audio sonica theater card to do 5.1 output?
you can do 2 stereo pairs with 4 outputs and get a fake, yet usable surround thing happening by assigning different outputs to different tracks.
you wont get proper surround panning without a lot of workarounds though.
search the forum for Kintools, its a rewire program someone made for surround sound usage with Live in mind.
It is actually much easier to get 'surround' panning in a 4.0 (quad) setup than in 5.1. Place the rear speakers at 130 degrees instead of the 110 degree 5.1 spec.
As far as this 'fake' comment, I dont understand. the world has been working in stereo for quite some time now and the 'ghost center' is quite well understood.
If you place the speakers in a 'quad' setup you avoid all the oddities of the 5.1 rig and can 'ghost' anywhere in 360 degrees.
As far as sending information to a front center channel, well it very much depends on the project. For film you would not want to send too much which could get in the way of the 'voice over'. Some people use the center some dont. As a musician I dont feel any need whatsoever to use the center but I have heard some brilliant music mixes which use it quite effectively.
Oh and yes you can get multiple out from Live !
