MIDI learning knobs - sweep only goes 123-127?

Post by fn0000rd » Sun Dec 28, 2014 3:04 am

I picked up a Samson MF8 tonight, so I can map the knobs and sliders to various effects in my live rig.

I started mapping a few FX knobs to the device knobs, which seemed to work fine, but once they're up to 128, they will only go back down to 123, and no lower.

Is there something I'm missing?

I noticed that as I turn it, the "Mode' listed below is at:

Relative (2's Comp) at minimum value,
Relative (Signed Bit) as it rises, then
Relative (BinOffset) at max.

I'm assuming that this is my issue, but in 10+ years of using Live, I've never run into this before, and am not sure what it means.

The Min/Max values set in Live after learning are confirmed 0/128.

OK, a little more info.

I can map knobs in Live to the *sliders* with no problem. They work perfectly, and there are no options whatsoever for relative values.

The sliders still insist on setting relative values, and don't work. I end up with a range of 123-127.

I opened up the MF8 editor (GraphiteMiniEditor), and verified that the knobs and the sliders are sending the same MIDI info by default (0 Bank Select).

Still, no joy. I'm not sure why Live is insisting on a relative value setting for the knob, but not the slider. I *could* use the sliders for controlling FX, but I want to use the knobs for those, and the sliders for channel volume.

i would check exactly what MIDI messages are being sent from the controller, using a MIDI monitoring app (e.g. MIDI-OX for Windows, MIDI Monitor for OS X)...
