Not 100% sure if that's the right terminology I've used but basically, I've bought a Waldorf Rocket hardware synth. It does not store any patches but it does say in the manual that by holding down the Rocket's Launch button for 1 second, it will dump the patch data into the DAW's midi track in the form of a sysex file.
However in Live, I'm not sure how you can tell that it has received a data dump.
So at the moment, I have an External Instrument midi track set up in Live with a melody playing that I like and want to keep, I don't yet want to commit it to audio but I do want to carry on experimenting with the Rocket's sounds without fear of losing the sound I've currently got running.
Can anyone with experience on this or even the Rocket in Live help me at all?
Cheers
Can anyone explain how a MIDI Data Dump works please?

Live doesn't support sysex messages.
The patch dumps from your Rocket are being ignored.

Oh well that's just great isn't itdoghouse wrote:Live doesn't support sysex messages.

So the only thing I can do is commit to audio and move on? I guess that's one of the drawbacks of such a simply synth that does not store user patches.
Thanks for the reply.

I haven't tried it as I don't need it but you might want to investigate Max For live Sysex solutions if you have M4L or Max.Daniel_S wrote: So at the moment, I have an External Instrument midi track set up in Live with a melody playing that I like and want to keep, I don't yet want to commit it to audio but I do want to carry on experimenting with the Rocket's sounds without fear of losing the sound I've currently got running.

Make some music!

There are sysex librarian programs. MIDI-OX is a good option on windows. Probably easier than trying to do it through Max.
