is Max for Live the wrong answer to the wrong question?

I think that the incidence of Live meltdowns with max patches gets massively over represented on the forum. Its like any new live set. Test thoroughly before before going public. That said, I get Angstrom's point. I wanted max 4 live to be a way of reconfiguring Live to meet my needs. What I got was object oriented programming, java script and python. I also got live video, granular synthesis and some freaky step sequencers. But that wasn't what I was initially looking for.
