So, how long have YOU been using Ableton Live?
Re: So, how long have YOU been using Ableton Live?
I started with version 4, pirate copy. Then I bought 5. I mainly used it to record audio in a very traditional way ala guitars, bass, vocals, with no VSTs coming from a tracker background. Used trackers since I was 12. Live obviously blew me away 13 years later due to its intuitive excellence, especially compared to Mod Edit. I couldn't believe how easy operations were now, like a simple volume fade did not require typing in alphanumerical values into a column. It was heaven, and slightly overwhelming - like being given the ability to fly all of a sudden.
I blindly continued using it for a few years after following the pretty solid intro tutorial, and then the plague (games - Left 4 Dead1 & 2) corrupted me, completely consuming my time, with my one-track mind. This plague ate about 5 years of my life, without Live being used or any music being made at all, apart from playing guitar.
After this half-decade waste of time, I upgraded to Live 9 along with Push. Whole new amazing world since then combining Live, Push and u-he, freeing myself from gaming addiction (I don't play anything at all since then). Learning a lot in this new period where previously I'd stubbornly not learn about anything production-side.

Bought v3 in 03, roughly 3-4 months later v4 came out.
Right before I met up with Urs Heckmann and one of the developers from Ableton in a bar in Berlin.
Urs chided the developer for Live's lack of virtual instrument and AU support. Guy did a great job of keeping mum.
Spent most of the time in Logic, but wrote a few decent songs in Live 4.
Eventually dumped Logic for Digital Performer, and started using Live a bit more like half the time.
I'm actually really liking Live 9, despite the browser limitations, and despite Pushes limitations I like it as well.
It's funny, the Remote SL MKII has a really good Live mode, so to a degree Push is mostly good for clip launching, as a drum machine and quickly adding clip automation in, but it does those things really well.

Right up there as one of my favorite quotes from grandpa Simpson.Angstrom wrote: 2004 was the year, and we wore onions on our belts, which was the style at the time.

I want the sounds from Henke's initial Operator presentation. If I recall, they were pretty groovy and sleek.

A copy of Live Lite 4 GTR came with an M-Audio Black Box. Having never used a DAW or deck, I was still multi-tracking parts within minutes. I was positive that Live Lite 4 was all I'd ever need.

Since 2005, although it seems like I didn't make any full tracks with it until 2007.
Before that, I used Reason from 2005-2006, FL Studio from 2004-2005, and Dance eJay 3/4/6 from 2001-2004

I've been using since v.5 lite (got it with my midi keyboard) with the band i was playing with. I bought the upgrade to live 6 later.
Re: So, how long have YOU been using Ableton Live?
Started with Version 5 in summer 2006, going away from Nuendo (great DAW, but version 3.0 was painstaking to work with VST instruments). Still working with Live, but added other DAWs in my workflow: Reaper, PT (Post-Pro) & Sibelius (orchestral stuff & music education).
