Check your local retailers. So far there are no announcements, but guitar center and amazon have the price drops in effect.

I've always contemplated buying this thing...but it's huge and from what I understand the Maschine can accomplish all the same and possibly more? I used an MPC 2000XL for a while though and really did love the workflow...

meh

I feel like Akai became the Microsoft of groove boxes, resting on the fact they owned the market for decades, fell asleep and then woke up and went “Oh SNAP! There are other contenders out there now. We better do something, anything! At a minimum we should match high prices.”

I like how NI is making he effort to combine some of their major products.

Letting Maschine trigger samples in Traktor, the closer union between Maschine and the keyboard.

Akai on the other hand has basically proclaimed that the MPC and their new keyboard are completely different divisions and they have no plans to combine the two. Which is unfortunate because it's be nice to make good use of the display on their new keyboards.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

well...however this promotion could mean that akai intends on releasing a new product??????

or guitar center just has too much stock and is sick of the space it's taking up

tbh im leaning towards the latter

I'm no longer an mpc user but I follow one of akais devs on twitter and about 6 months ago at a microsoft expo they showed a standalone microsoft mpc. It looked like an MPC ren with an iPad like looking screen instead of the old school LCD screen they continue to push today lol.

so yeah, they are definitely working on something new. But I don't see an opening in the market for them over the summer to drop it even if they were to have it ready which Im assuming it isn't even close to being ready. Who knows though.

I would really like to see a standalone MPC again though just because I thought it was a helluva lot easier to track into a daw and sync then todays plugin. I know others on the mpc forums feel the same way. However, a lot of people love the plugin so it goes both ways.

I am sorry, but The Machine requires the computer, while the AKAI MPC stuff does not. Or am I missing something?

You are. This MPC requires a computer.

that is another reason I can't fuck with it...i feel that for the reason that it is a fancy controller it cannot live up to the legacy of the AKAI MPC name...it simply is not the same fam

They have the REN standing in my music store and boy is the Microsoft comparison apt :x

Trying to play this thing really feels like filling in Excel spread sheets :P

I don't seem to be the only one, who feels that way either, as you almost never find a Maschine to play with without a wait there, while there is never anyone on the REN.

I could see it, if this convoluted mess of an uninteresting controller would have come about by putting too much capabilities in a stand alone device. But as a Maschine competitor that needs a computer?! Please!!!

BTW does the controller still serve as a dongle for the software, so you can't even do anything in the software when the controller is not connected?! YEAH, I wouldn't touch it if at were 299,-
