Except for the increased volume of mediocrity we have to go sift through in search for new, good music.

Oh but see, this will separate the wheat from the shaft amongst the DJs regarding their core competency (track selection) again. So it's a win - win  8)

Is there no software that currently lets you extract the stems into 5 separate files?

Not yet, but I'm sure someone will make one shortly.

Shouldn't any tool which is able to decode mp4 containers be able to extract them? Like Handbrake for example.

You would think so, but doesn't look like handbrake is working for this. Here's some more info on the specifics though:

Kind of the opposite of what people are asking for here, but NI just released their new free stems creator software. Haven't checked it out yet.

IMO Traktor is better for DJing than Live so this should be cool for others who feel the same way and want to use their own productions in Traktor.

I worked out a way of doing this with the help of this guy's script:
http://blog.beatunes.com/2015/09/destemming-stems.html

basically, the script creates 5 flac (or any audio format) files (one for each track) and you can load them into Ableton (with identical warping on each) as described here: http://www.creatotronik.com/?q=node/41
