The way I managed to sort this problem out in the end was to drag and drop each wav file on my desk top in to the downloads folder which you will find in the ("THIS PC") where all of your "documents" "music" "pictures" videos" ETC are, and try to drag and drop them in to ableton from there, and low and behold I was no longer getting the forbidden sign and each file loaded with no problem.
I have now added the folder "downloads" on to the library on ableton for quick instalments of the wav files.
