Why would you do it that way around?

How can I install the previous Live 9 version? | Ableton
The process is the same no matter, if the 'other' version is up or down, and any of them should find and import the preferences from a previous installation.

9.5 should be perfectly fine any way you do it. The core library is in the resources folder next to the program folder, so each version maintains (and accesses) its own version of that.

I could imagine, though, that when running 9.2.3, you'd run into problems with the v2 upgrade of the Max for Live Essentials pack.

thanks for your reply!!!

…i thought that having the latest version as the "default" version (so that the next updates would overwrite it) and the old one as the backup would be much less confusing…

Well, if I wanted it that way, I would do the upgrade to 9.5 and install 9.2.3 as a new/parallel installation after that, like it's described in the article.

'Renaming' an installation looks like a call for confusion, because at some level there always stays something behind that points to the original folder, be it a registry entry, config file or whatever. Letting the respective installers handle this propperly should be a lot cleaner and safer.

I have both installed, when I went back to 9.2 it still played with Max7 installed.

Are you saying the new MFL Essentials will work in 9.2?
