Rhythmic elements are always great, but there are no rules. Whatever you're feeling, just try it.

Really anything.

In the 80s and 90s it was popular to put swing on everything. These days triplet swing isn't as popular but subtle amounts on about anything can put a slightly different feel on your tracks. There really are no rules though and is a big part of some producers sound.

Super-repeative percussion is great. As mentioned - hats. Shakers, bongos.

I like to throw groove on 16th note patterns.

Yeah, anything. I like to use different grooves on different parts and even switch here and there. Whenever I set up grooves I listen very carefully to how it affects the song.

In the end I may end up burning in the groove and hand edit the last parts to get everything just right, if that's important.
