Group solo glitch with alternating?

I've keymapped 's' to solo my reference track, but when I have one of my groups solo'ed and I press the 's', it solo's both tracks instead of the one reference--it doesn't unsolo the group track like it does with single midi and audio tracks. Tried toggling 'solo in place'...why does it solo both tracks in this case?
