Sysex and osc

Hi All,

I am trying to find out the best way to work with sysex and an external synth.

Ableton (still) doesn't work with Sysex as far as I know.
I think you can with Max 4 live, but wanted to check here to see if anyone has a good working methd.

What I was thinking is that perhaps I am able to use max to hook sysex cntroller messages (cutoff etc) into live via Max4 live and then edit these as automation data (via some sort of max4live intefacing.
Was thinking it may need to be converted to osc perhaps, if so, does anyone have arecommended device to do so.
