A tool to make chords easily...
Re: A tool to make chords easily...
Yeah but if you can play a chord and know nothing about it by tapping an arbitrary note on a keyboard with Cthulhu, it's much like speaking, vs cracking open the arranger and 'spelling' chords note for note.

Truth, you will actually save a lot of time by just learning basic music theory.Underground Surface wrote:I suggest you to learn theory about chords, not using programs that are generating these things automatically. Just learn about minor and major chords at least and it's done. Don't use these tools, do it yourself.
it will not take that long.
Music Theory for Computer Musicians is a great book
http://amzn.com/1598635034
the secret is learning your scale intervals then you can just build chords on the fly.
get references of musical turnarounds also
Re: A tool to make chords easily...
music theory lol who needs music theory these days to boring just use the tools that are out there have fun and dont get bogged down in music theory
seriously you will give up if you go down the music theory route
most great musicians cant even read music so that tells its own story
ableton has a great chord tool use that as a starting point
god i hate music theory

You could also try putting an Ableton midi scale plugin after a chord plugin
and even drop an Arp before all that too.
then route the midi to another midi track that has your synth.
this way you can record the actual output of the chain for easier editing.
that is actually a good trick of any midi effect.
Edit
and FYI Music Theory is not reading score
it is more rooted in mathematics.
Most great musicians actually know music theory, that is how they became great.
the basics of scale theory and chord theory go a long way, and it would take only a few days or maybe a few weeks to grasp.
The learning tools like "Music Theory For Computer Muscian" help break it down for a none Academic (Academia over complicates things and makes everything boring)
they Key is understanding intervals.
the mathematics are on a simple 2+1 = 3 level.
the piano roll is a built in interval cheat sheet
all 7 modes are represented in the white keys based on which note you call root
start on C and play only white keys you will have the primary major scale Ionian
start on A and play only white keys you will have the primary minor scale Aeolian
yes, you could skip it but a week or 2 of study would go a long way to save time in the long run.

This place.
Even the guy arguing for music theory is an anti-intellectual.
If boredom is your biggest deterrent… never mind, I can sense you're already staring at your phone by now.
