How do you approach recording bass gutiar without an amp?
Hi,
I've started playing around recording my bass guitar straight into my audio interface,
and am interested in hearing how you approach this.
My first attempt has been to use ableton bass amp and cabinet, do some eq, apply some saturation and a bit of reverb.
The results are decent to my ears, but not great.
What sounds good or not is of course subjective, but I would still like to hear what you do.
I own some Nebula stuff as well, and will try playing around with some amp presets.
Anyone tried that?
Thanks.

Re: How do you approach recording bass gutiar without an amp?
I use a DI, preferably an Avalon U5 or a REDDI, but at least something like a passive Radial.

I'll see if my local musicshop has a reddi so I can give it a try.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I use the Avalon U5 also. For further effects I would turn to FabFilter Saturn.

I have an active bass and I just plug it line in.

Don't have saturn but I guess I can use Trash 2.mmorgan wrote:I use the Avalon U5 also. For further effects I would turn to FabFilter Saturn.
Do you use it to add saturation to higher frequencies?

Do you do any processing on it?jlgrimes wrote:I have an active bass and I just plug it line in.
Do have any examples of your recordings I can listen too?
Thanks!

Do you think that such a DI box would make a big difference? I have the Apollo Twin.

The Hi-Z input on the Twin will work fine in place of a DI. I prefer to use units like the Avalon because of the type of coloration it adds that I personally like.dafeda wrote:Do you think that such a DI box would make a big difference? I have the Apollo Twin.

I just use it to add a little more satur[n]ation if I feel the DI is too dry. The Saturn is very versatile so it gets used in many situations. And yes typically I do not add very much, if any saturation, on the low end. Never say never though.dafeda wrote:Don't have saturn but I guess I can use Trash 2.mmorgan wrote:I use the Avalon U5 also. For further effects I would turn to FabFilter Saturn.

I've tried Saturn and liked it a lot, but a bit too expensive given that I already own Trash 2. Thanks for the input.mmorgan wrote:I just use it to add a little more satur[n]ation if I feel the DI is too dry. The Saturn is very versatile so it gets used in many situations.
