El Capitan ruined my life (10.11.3)
Hello all, does anyone else have issues since they installed the newest update of El Capitan 10.11.3
I am specifically refering to my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface not working and ableton generally being very annoying e.g. not opening or detecting my USB devices.
Any Help Guys?!

...according to the release notes the 10.11.4 updated released yesterday solved some usb audio related problems...
for me 10.11. was the smoothest apple update ever and it's running absolutely great on my late 2011 macbook pro...i don't have an usb audiointerface though...

You're using the 3.0.653 drivers of the 17th of Dec? Did you talk to Focusrite before you decided Apple destroyed your life? What did they say?flagrant disregard wrote:Focusrite Saffire 6 USB [audio] interface

I think I’m not going to upgrade to El Capitan until Apple announces the next OS. I’m not aware of anything I am missing by still being on Yosemite and I have way too much music software by different developers to risk it.

I haven't noticed any issues with El Capitan and Live. Can't speak for the audio interface though.

While I think that's the right attitude for a music machine — If it ain't broke… — it's interesting that I waited on OS X 10.9 Mavericks until OS X 10.11 El Capitan came around, skipping OS X 10.10 Yosemite altogether for similar reasons to yours here. To me generally El Capitan is looking to become the new Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). Way less problems than in Mavericks, though I didn't have many issues with that.beats me wrote:I think I’m not going to upgrade to El Capitan until Apple announces the next OS. There have been suggestions on the Native Instruments forums that Apple knows of audio-related issues with OS X 10.9 and later, but I haven never been able to get that confirmed. At least Ableton Support haven't heard about it and Native have been giving me conflicting info the last few years.
I have been working on multiple machines with close to no issues — certainly not day by day — with Live 9.1 and later under OS X 10.6, 10.9, 10.10 and now 10.11. The only real problems I've had have been with one quite old machine (2007) that is no longer in use.

Re: El Capitan ruined my life (10.11.3)
I reviewed the new features in El Capitan last night, nothing really beyond “that’s kind of neat” and I probably wouldn’t use most of it. I’m concerned more about the smaller developers keeping up than the bigger ones. And as this post is saying, sometimes updates fix some bugs but create new ones that weren’t there before.
As far as the Snow Leopard comparison, if you’re talking stability and speed improvements I’m on a 2015 retina iMac and am not really experiencing any of those issues with Yosemite. Maybe if I was on an older computer I would be having issues and notice the improvement.

No problems here...and maybe before blaming apple for your life problems you should think about how stupid you could possibly be. Everyone tells you "don't upgrade until you know it's safe" have you been living under a rock?!?!?

I'm using El Capitan with a USB Saffire 6. No problems what so ever. Make sure you have the most up to date Safire 6 driver. The one that came out in December is the new one for El Capitan.

Yes, that's exactly my experience. 10.10 didn't feel snappy at all on my older MBP for the period when I tested 10.10.0, but on a 2013 15" MBP we've had very few issues on 10.10.beats me wrote:

I suppose it's the hardware and the specific collection of software that determines whether you get a stable machine or not. When I did a clean installation of 10.11 some weeks ago I decided not to install everything from before and installed only the instruments and effects I knew I'd be using. Fewer components are easier to control.

Funny, i saw this thread when im about to upgrade my OS.
From 10.8 to 10.9
And this upgrade is only necessary because of NI.
otherwise i was good with ML.
Im not brave to jump to el capitan but i wrote your words.
Edit: i have mid 2012, 2.6 GHz non retina, 8 ram, +SSD.

If you use Native Instruments software I think you seriously should consider El Capitan. NI on Mavericks wasn't that fun. Of course everything you use is important, especially your audio interface, so make your home work. With your machine I wouldn't hesitate. If you make a backup of your whole drive you can always go back.alpertt wrote:Funny, i saw this thread when im about to upgrade my OS.

Note that I needed to turn off SIP in order to run really old not updated drivers for old hardware. That's a PITA, but acceptable to me.
