As opposed to increased the track tempo, which makes the clips play faster?
in the seg. bpm, decreasing the clip bpm makes things play faster. Am i missing some very basic knowledge here? would love to know. thanks

Think of the difference between the main BPM and the seg. BPM as a ratio.
The seg BPM is Live's guess that "this clip was recorded at xxx BPM"

if the Seg BPM is 120, and the main BPM is also at 120 (a 1:1 ratio) then the clip will play back without warping at all, it will play back at the same speed it was recorded.
When you increase the seg BPM you are telling Live that "this clip was recorded at 150 BPM", the clip is marked as "faster than the song"

if the Seg BPM is set at 150, and the main BPM is 120 you have effectively said to Live "this loop is fast, but please play it at 120 BPM. Slow it down so that it becomes 120 BPM"
