APC40

Post by nasamutalisk » Sun May 29, 2016 8:50 am

Hey all

I've got this APC40, that I have been pretty happy about since I switched to Ableton. Few years ago, though, it started behaving strangely and began moving several of the parameters connected to the faders and knobs. Couldn't figure out a solution so it's been in my basement ever since. Now I've got renewed interest in getting the damn thing working again, and I was wondering if anyone else have experienced these symptoms and found a solution?

I thought about maybe resetting/upgrading firmware, if that is even possible. Haven't found much useful when googling around since most posts I found was about the MK2 version, and I have only the first one.

Any input is most welcome

Cheers
/M

You mean the parameters move on their own?

Yes. Of course the hardware faders and knobs doesn't move as well, but in Ableton they skate around, messing up my mix. Mostly it happens on the volume faders, which sucks really, really hard. Think I might have lost a few years off my life when the damn thing randomly turns the volume all the way to the max.

And you're sure you don't have some automation recorded thats causing this? Otherwise sounds like it might be a hardware issue, at least if the encoders are sending data randomly. A midi monitor app should let you see if it's the unit or something in your Live set causing it.

Perhaps your issue is related to this:

Although I have not noticed the faders sending random values, only the encoders. I have not used the APC in many months, so perhaps this has been fixed and you have an actual hardware problem.

I have seen this on my APC40, I believe the encoders are dirty inside and they are sending ghost midi values sometimes.
You may call it 'analogue warmth' or hardware problem. I call it free running random LFOs

I have this same problem with two of the volume faders on my APC.
I've bought two replacement faders but have yet to put them in.
