WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
I've just updated to this and Ableton 9.6.2 crashes instantly. Cannot load past the plugin scan.

Re: WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
After going through all my installed plugins, it seems the culprit is WaveShell-VST 7.0.vst
Removing this now allows a full launch.

Damnit. I was going to maybe upgrade to El Capitan this weekend.
It would be a super pisser if a plugin I own but never use crashed Live on startup. Or does Live work like Logic? If there is a problem with a plugin on the scan it just disables the plugin, lets you know which one, and moves forward and you have to manually turn the plugin back on.

Hi,
Adding this to your Options.txt would bypass plug-in scans at startup and consequently avoid this kind of crashes:
-NoVstStartupScan
Then you can trigger the scan manually inside Live when needed. In addition, you can press and hold Alt in Rescan to run a global scan instead of an update scan. You can see the name of the plug-in currently being scaned in Live's Status Bar.

Re: WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
But there's no problem with El Capitan release and the proper version Waves, which is 10.11.5. The problem is with the 10.11.6 beta (and Waves 7)! There's no need running that. Also see my next post below about Waves 7.beats me wrote:Damnit. I was going to maybe upgrade to El Capitan this weekend. :x .

OK, good job. To Waves? You know the current Waves version is 9.6. v7 is like really really old.silicon1138 wrote:After going through all my installed plugins, it seems the culprit is WaveShell-VST 7.0.vst

As you can see at System Requirements version 7 is compatible with OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.4, That's 5 major versions of OS X ago that this Waves version is compatible with! Your warning is nothing but quite bewildered I'm afraid.

Re: WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
I had this as well though, with 10.11.5. Running waves 7 because waves charge for upgrades. Which I will now have to pay for. It ran fine on Yosemite.
Re: WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
i forget the actual verbiage, since its been a year or 2 since i did it, but Waves has some kind of upgrade path or version insurance. if you pay for that and then use it to upgrade your plugins, you're likely to save a fair bit of loot - assuming you have more than about 3 of their plugs. if you have less, there really isn't that much benefit.timday wrote:I had this as well though, with 10.11.5. also, if you do pay for it today, it guarantees that you will get any updates that are released for at least a year... again, i forget the actual time frame, but it will insure you against a Waves 10 announcement next month, for example.
i used it to upgrade to 64 bit plugins and saved several hundreds of dollars.

OK. If it works it works. But the official support is not there. You know it's quite common to charge for major version upgrades. Ableton does it. Waves do NOT charge for incremental updates and you do not have to be in an upgrade plan to get new incremental versions.timday wrote:I had this as well though, with 10.11.5. I know, and the upgrade deals are reasonable, and you can even buy into the upgrade plan when the upgrades come out rather than ahead of time and it doesn't cost any more. Just that there was a quite good reason for running v7 up to now......

Being able to run it up until OS X 10.10 was pretty good considering. Did side-chaining work with v7 in Live?

Re: WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
IIRC it did
Odd thing is v7 still seemed to work in Logic 9 (which I have a legacy copy of), it's just Live that crashed it, and then only when I tried to open a plugin rather than on opening. Logic 9 isn't supposed to work in El Cap either. I've upgraded my plugs to 9 now one of the side effects of which is to forever delete 7 from the system so I can't do any more tests.

Re: WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
I do think it should be possible to run different Waves major versions side by side. I remember reading this on the site. I might be wrong though. It might also be not very practical to have the same product in different major versions active.timday wrote: I've upgraded my plugs to 9 now one of the side effects of which is to forever delete 7 from the system so I can't do any more tests.

Re: WARNING - El Capitan 10.11.6 Beta (15G26a) crashing
When I installed 9 it said it was going to delete all the older versions, and it did. I mean there may have been some way to keep them but I had no reason to so they're gone.....
