Kind of sucks that Push seems to be dominating all their time & effort these days. Seems like a chef spending all their time working on side orders & ignoring the entree. I wonder what percentage of Live users even own a Push.

I still don’t know what the advantages of using Sampler over Simpler are and vice versa.

Well, Push is another topic.
The update for Simpler is also working without Push and of course I welcome
some extra features in Simpler. But Simpler is still the LITTLE brother of Sampler.
People (including me) paid extra money for Sampler and see Simpler outpacing
Sampler in some categories.

What would you like to see improved in Sampler?

LOL All resources are spent for PUSH. And it is harming the parent program.

I'd like to see the same or similar features like the ones that were introduced
for Simpler with 9.5 and of course the ones that will be included in 9.7 (which
I haven't checked out yet).
This concerns mostly slicing and timestretching.
Of course I wouldn't mind other improvements :-)

I don't actually like what's been done to Simpler. The default behaviour of it makes it a pain to use for me, so I never use it any more. I just use Sampler.
EG: when you drag a sample into Simpler it sets everything to HipHop mode. It just says "warp mode on" every single time. I never ever want that.

They seem to have a fixed idea how people will use the app : "Slice a break into a Simpler and play it off pads !!! One button does it all !!!"
yeah, I'm never ever gonna do that. I don't want it. I don't need it. The focus on a Push-based workflow has been very detrimental to my use of Ableton Live.

Simpler sees a sample and wants to warp it as a break. EVERY TIME.

it does this because when it loads a sample from the browser it takes the warp information from the associated .asd file.
Problem being - Live makes .asd files for anything it ever scans so they are totally useless.

If they fuck up Sampler like they did with Simpler I'll have to use Kontakt I guess.

Isn't that something you can avoid by adjusting Simpler to your needs
and then saving these settings as new default settings ?

I actually want something in Simpler that’s missing but is in Sampler. Correct me if I’m wrong. I want to be able to set the root note of the sample by note name, not farting around with cents adjustments. Don’t know why they would have that in one but not the other.

No, you can't in this case. I spoke to support about it. This new "feature" totally ignores the defaults. Any time you drag a sample, or hotswap a sample, into Simpler it will look at the .als for that sample and then will use whatever is in that .als to set up Simpler.

Of course every bit of audio we have in our collections has been at some point scanned by Live and auto-set to "16 beats, warped, beats mode" as a default. Well, that's what now live takes as an overriding setting when you load any sample. ... Every time. No matter what you do.

Confirmed by support as a "feature"
BUG-3281 wrote:Detailed Description
1: Load a Simpler set to "Classic", Warp OFF, Loop OFF. Click the Sample hotswap marble.
2: Simpler device should remain in Warp OFF, Loop OFF
3: Simpler switches to Warp ON, Loop ON

this is giant pain when constructing layered racks.
Yes, this exists in the released 9.5 but it's not good at all. there is no case when this is a desirable outcome.

Reproducibility - Always Happens
Importance - High

Status - Closed
Closure Reason - Enhancement Request

The discussion below this got wiped when they swapped their commenting system , but in essence I was told "its meant to be this way" it's designed for all the Push people to slice mad beatz with. I guess.

Nobody is actually meant to make sounds like "layered pad" anymore.
just 4 slice up dem mad beatz on yr Push innit?!

I guess Sampler is just more capable than Simpler - Sampler has some sweet oscillator functions and you really can go mad with the multiple LFO functionality. Oh, and dem zones. I suppose the expense is it takes longer to set up/more resource intensive.

Simpler's great for that quick fix, simple playback, etc.

That's it.
And with 9.5 Simpler got timestretching and some 'native' sample-slicing features that big Sampler does not have.
And now we get the announcement that 9.7 will again expand the features of Simpler, but no announcement that
Sampler will at least catch up with its small brother...

I mostly use Simpler/Sampler as a straight sample player. I’m not trying to morph the sound of coffee dripping into an evolving pad. So Sampler’s expanded features might be lost on me?

Simpler is great now when it comes to creating warped chords (with vocals, for example, which wasnt possible before without the vox sounding like a chipmunk).
The new manual pad slicing is great, too.

However, imho, Simpler needs an alternating/pingpong loop...that's very simple sample playback basics.

Would be great to see waveforms in Sampler on Push 2, too, and be able to load samples into different Sampler zones with Push.
Sampler would benefit from being able to warp, too.

I was kind of surprised to see Simpler get all the new features as it's meant to be the simpler sampler anyways, whereas Sampler is (was) the big brother, so I'd love to see the new features on it, too. And like someone said, it's a paid extra, so upgrading it would make sense.
