Using DJ controllers with Ableton

Post by systemone » Wed Sep 28, 2016 10:42 pm

Has anyone managed to successfully map a crossfader on a DJ controller ?
Either doesn't do anything at all of it skips about. I'm getting a midi signal from the controller. When I map it, it's adding the map to the mapping list down the left hand side, but when I come out of mapping mode it doesn't work. Having same issue with jog wheels too. The controller is a Hercules DJ Air+.

When you MIDI Map you'll see a yellow bar at the bottom of the screen, this gives you different options for how the mapping is translated from the controller...

Try the different settings with your controller and see if it makes a difference, if it doesn't then it won't work...

You're only alternative then is to maybe edit the messages that the controller sends using it's editor software if it has some?

Cheers

Would you like to explain how you did it, so that other visitors to the forum can find the info?

On Mac FWIW....

I have DJ44 controller added in Mac Audio MIDI setup (not sure if this is necessary).
Open Live prefs> Link MIDI tab > under MIDI ports > Input DJ44 make sure Remote is set to On
Hit MIDI assign button top right main Live screen > highlight crossfader > move DJ44 crossfader > all works.
